Biography of Japanese Painter

Watanabe Seitei (1852 - 1918)

Watanabe Seitei or Syotei, is Japanese painter, and also woodblock printmaker.
Seitei was born in Kanda of Edo.
He became a disciple of Kikuchi Yosai and Shibata Zeshin.
Even though Yosai was the giant of  historical paintings, Seitei was good at painting flowers & birds pictures because Yosai advised him not to preserve his master's style.
Seitei sent his artwork to the World Expo held at Paris in 1878 and won a prize.
