Kikuchi Yosai (1788 - 1878)

Yosai was born in Edo.
His real first name was Takeyasu.
He served the Tokugawa government.
At first, he learned painting technique of the Kano school from Takada Enjyo.
Then, learned the other techniques of Japanese, Chinese and Western idioms.
He studied ancient practices in Japan, and was good at painting historical scenes.
Patriarch of the Yosai school.
