The well-known historical scene is painted well.
Taira no Tadamori (1096 - 1153), Samurai knight who served Abdicated Emperor
Shirakawa, was ordered to kill the monster who walked around in the Imperial
Palace.
Tadamori doubted if he was a real monster or not, then, Tadamori decided
to capture the monster.
Once he captured the monster, he found it was not a monster, it was just
an old man whose job was to suffuse candles with oil in the palace.
Later, Abdicated Emperor Shirakawa praised Tadamori's bravery and coolness.
This is the scene.
It was painted by Kano Tohaku, the 5th head of the Surugadai Kano school
in Edo.
