It is super super large hanging scroll.
This scroll is a copy of the one of Chinzan's well-known painting "Seien-Gashu (Xiyuan yaji)".
This painting is made in a mixture of silkscreen and handwriting.
Silkscreen is print technique that looks like handwriting.
There are some small grazes on the painting part.
Although, the condition of this scroll is good.
The original painting was drawn in September of 1832.
This scroll has been appraised by Honami Tsunemasa of the Nohon Bijutsuhin
Hozon Shinsa-Kai (Japan Artworks Conservation & Appraisal Association)
in September of 1991.
The endorsement was done on back side of the lid of the wooden box.
The appraiser, Honami Tsunemasa is a descendent of Honami Koetsu who flourished
as an appraiser and great artist in the Sengoku period (1573-1603).
The endorsement on the lid proves that the scroll is a copy of one of the
leading artworks of Tsubaki Chinzan.
A lacquered outer box is also attached.
Although, the lid of the outer box is lost.
The scene is that Entsu-Daishi, Buddhistic priest in the 11th Century,
gathered poets, writers and prominent figures.
They enjoyed viewing the landscape and talking.
The scene is painted elaborately and artistically in the Nanga style. |
