Painter Tosa Mitsuzane (1780 - 1852)

Tosa school master painter at the latter part of the Edo period (1603 - 1868).
Mitsuzane was born in 1780 as the eldest son of Tosa Mitsusada.
He followed in his father's footsteps and became an official painter of the Kyoto Imperial Palace.
He produced many paintings of room partitions of the palace with his father.

This scroll has been re-mounted.
There are several holes on the painting part, however, those are not so noticeable.
As a whole, the condition of this scroll is not bad.
The motif is the Jurojin God, one of the Seven Deities of Good Fortune.
The Jurojin God has always a macrobian deer in tow.
He also holds a treasure ball.
