Born in Ono Village of Hitachi Province.
His given name is Toshiro.
Went to Edo and studied painting under Ichiga Oki.
After Ichiga's death, studied historical painting under Yosai Kikuchi.
Helped Tenshin Okakura to establish the Japan Art Institute.
Adjudicator of the Institute.
Cultivated many great painters such as Shiko Imamura, Koko Takahashi, Mifune Hayami and Choko Kamoshita.

Description

The scroll is slightly foxed overall as it was painted years ago.
Unfortunately, stains by water are a little noticeable.
Small holes at the top part of the mounting are recognized.
As a whole, the condition of this scroll is so-so.
Although, the painting is great one.
It is rather large scroll.
The motif is Minamoto Yoshiie (1039-1106), very famous Samurai Warrior.
The composition is also well-known scene in the battle that Yoshiie found unbushes as he has seen wild geese flying suddenly broke formation.
The painter of this scroll is Fuko Matsumoto, giant in the Japaense art history.
