- Description
The scroll is a little foxed overall as it was painted years ago.
We estimate it was painted between 1850 and 1900.
The both roller ends have recently been replaced to plastic ones.
There are spots, stains and folds to some extent in whole.
Some creases are recognized on the painting part.
There are a breach and a few small tears at the bottom of the mounting.
As a whole, the condition of this scroll is not good.
Although, Takao-Dayu is painted very well.
Takao-Dayu was top Yujo prostitute who was ranked "Tayu".
She was counted one of the top three Tayu prostitutes in the Kanei era
(1624-1645).
There used to be a status system in the world of Yujo prostitution in the
Edo period, and, only most beautiful, learned, cultured and sophisticated prostitutes
could be ordained Tayu rank.
