Taikan was born in Tokyo in the 31st year of the Meiji era (1898).
His real given name was Masao.
Taikan is a pseudonym.
He studied Japanese-style painting under Takamori Suigan who was good at
the Nanso-ga style painting.
Taikan traveled to China and had relationships with Sai Hakuseki (Qi Baishi)
and others.
After coming back to Japan, he chieftly depicted Mt. Fuji, flowers and
leaves in the Suiboku painting method.
Taikan deceased in the 58th year of the Showa era (1983) at the age of
86. |

Description |
This scroll was painted before 1928.
It is rather long scroll.
There are some faint folds on the mounting.
And there are some small spots on the drawing part.
Although, the condition of this scroll is not bad.
The title of this scroll is "Autumn color of leaves".
Maple leaves tinged with red and a waterfall are painted well.
This scroll looks nice.
