Giant of the Nanga style painters flourished through the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras.
Ryukei was born in Edo in the 2nd year of the Ansei era in Edo period (1855).
His real given name was Seiji.
Ryukei is a pseudonym.
He studied the Nanga style painting under Tazaki Soun.
After the Meiji Restoration, he acted as a member of the Nihon Bijutsu-In Kyokai and an adjudicator of the Nihon Nanso-ga Kai.

Description

The scroll is slightly foxed overall as it was painted years ago.
There are some spots on the mounting part.
There also are faint spots to some extent on the drawing part.
As a whole, the condition of this scroll is not so bad.
A cataract and Kaede (green acer) leaves are painted dynamically.
