Buddhist priest of the Kegon-Shu Sect.
The 205th chief priest (Betto) of the Todai-Ji Temple.
Ueno Dozen, the 219th chief priest, is Choen's adopted son.
The Todai-Ji is one of the oldest temples in Japan which was founded in the first half of the 8th century by Emperor Shomu.
