Buddhistic priest belonged to the Shingon Sect.

His given name is Kenju.

His Gou (pen name) are Rakurakusai, Anninshi, Fukatoku and the others.

Priest at the Rokuhara-Mitsu-Ji Temple in Kyoto.

He learned poems and writings under Kohnen of the Chiseki-In Temple.

Dohon's writing style was acclaimed by cultural figures at that time.

Later, he moved to Edo.

Description

This scroll must have been written in 1844.
It is a little foxed overall as it was drawn years ago.
There are spots, stains, tears and folds.
As a whole, the condition of this scroll is so-so.
Although, the Kanji Zen phrase is drawn in good form.
The writing means that "Understanding Japanese tea ceremony is to understand Zen spirit."
This item is also suitable as a hanging scroll for Japanese tea ceremony.
