This scroll was drawn around June of 1864.
The last years of the reign of the Tokugawa Shogunate (= the Edo period,
1603 - 1868).
There are tears and small holes at the top part of the mounting.
Some spots, stains and folds are recognized.
As a whole, the condition of this scroll is so-so.
The motif is a Oiran lady, highly sophisticated and cultured Japanese prostitute.
She has a servant girl and an umbrella holder in tow.
