Okutani Shuseki (1871 - 1936)

Shuseki was born in Osaka in the 4th year of the Meiji era.
His real given name was Tokojiro.
Shuseki is a pseudonym.
He became a disciple of Mori Kansai and studied painting style of the Maruyama school.
Since Shuseki's youth, he was accepted for many exhibitions such as ones held by the Seinen Kaiga Kyokai or the Nihon Kaiga Kyokai.
Shuseki was good at painting landscapes.
He lived in Kyoto, and was a leading figure of the prewar Kyoto circle of painters.
He deceased in the 11th year of the Showa era at the age of 66.

There are a few small holes at the top of the mounting.
And there are some spots and stains.
Folds on the drawing part are a little noticeable.
As a whole, the condition of this scroll is so-so.
Although, a cataract is painted artistically using Japanese brush and ink.
