Okuda Hosei (1860 - 1934)
Calligrapher, literal person, educator.
His real given name was Kazuo.
Hosei is a pseudonym.
Hosei was born in Owari Province (present Aichi Prefecutre) as a son of Okuda Taikan, an official Confucianist of Owari Domain.
He studied English, mathematics, bookkeeping, Kanji poetry and other literal things at a few schools.
He established a private school in Nagoya city with his father.
After that, Hosei teached mainly Kanji poetry at several schools in Nagoya and Tokyo.
He wrote many books.

Description

This scroll was drawn in the spring of 1917.
There are a few small holes on the mounting.
There are also some spots and stains.
As a whole, the condition of this scroll is not so bad.
Matsu (Japanese Pine) and Tsubaki (Japanese Camellia) trees, mossy stone and Kanji writing are drawn artistically by three artists.
All Matsu, Tsubaki and mossy stone are considered as symbols of longevity in Japan.
