Biography of Japanese Painter

Ashizu Jitsuzen (1850 - 1921)

Jitsuzen was born in Kii Province (Now Wakayama Prefecture).
He learned the Buddhistic scholarships of the Tendai Sect. at the Meioh-In Temple.
Then, he studied Buddhistic rules under Ogino Dokuen in Tokyo.
Participated in the International Religious Conference held in Chicago in 1896.
In 1898, he moved to the Rinzan Sect.
In 1903, he became the Chief Priest of the Eigen-Ji Temple.
His pen names are Sekiren and Tsuryoken.
